Buenos Amigos Video Background: Originally released on May 9, 1992 and the first Tejano Record ever to go Double Platinum, Entre a Mi Mundo also represented a period of time when Selena was unstoppable and would soon achieve even higher success. It was on this album that two of her most remembered hits would emerge. It was also in 1992 that EMI was seeking out ways to spread Selena's appeal further across Latin America, so they paired her up with Alvaro Torres to record the terrific # 1 single "Buenos Amigos". Review: As Suzette says in the Liner Notes, Selena y Los Dinos were "solid as a rock" when this album was released. A.B, by this time, nearly perfected his writing skills. And Selena improved greatly. Her rock style song Amame, which she co-wrote on this release proves just that. The two main attractions on this album are, of course, La Carcacha and Como La Flor. Two songs that to this day remain on the radio and are still Selena favorites. Como La Flor would become Selena's trademark, and La Carcacha would become their first music video. An overlooked song on this CD is the great Tejano song "La Cadenas", which is really well done. Siempre Estoy Pensando En Ti, the last of the Pete/Selena duets outdoes them all. Vuelve A Mi is a stirring number that Selena pulls off effortlessly, putting her pride aside and begging her ex-love to return to her. Que Creias?, an original mariachi song by A.B, also has become a Selena favorite over the years. But this song really comes to life when it's sung live while the studio version does not have the same passion. Same goes with Si La Quieres, it sounds much better on the Live album. Selena also began to continued to gain skills in the Pop market by making Missing My Baby. Here she proved that she could tackle the slow pop song as good as she tackled the fast paced "My Love" in 1989. Selena also recorded Where Did The Feeling Go?" in the late 80's, and it's a welcomed addition on this special edition. |
